You have been sleeping well every night. Yet just a few hours after getting up, fatigue takes over, even without any great intellectual effort, and with no sign of a cold or any other illness on the horizon. If you have ever felt like this, we have news for you: this is exactly how emotional fatigue shows itself.
Emotional fatigue happens when, for certain periods of time, we keep our emotional “tone” working non-stop. It is when several situations that wear us down in this way happen one after another, leaving us with exhaustion of this kind.
This is where emotional restcomes in to counter it. One of its key points is that, first of all, we need to identify the triggers causing this type of stress, as well as the activities that can genuinely offer a break in this area of life. Some of the main ones are:
Relaxation techniques to steady the emotional field, such as breathing exercises, meditation, yoga and massage;
Physical exercise: it never fails, does it? Activities such as swimming, cycling, running, going to the gym and others can help you relax not only physically, but emotionally too;
Laugh! Yes, you read that correctly. Give a comedy programme a chance, have a light-hearted chat with the people you love, watch a funny film. Laughter releases emotional tension and protects against this fatigue, so it is always recommended;
Allow yourself to be loved. Let the people you feel a strong connection with hug you, spoil you and shower you with kisses and affection. They have a power to renew us that no science can explain (or rather, perhaps it can)!
Create a space where you can always rest: it could be in the garden or even in a corner of your bedroom. It could hold objects and decorative items that calm you, along with incense, essential oils, books, magazines... you decide!
Do simple things: the things we often consider “useless”, that is, done without any specific purpose, are important and should be part of our lives. Let go of the obsession with goals and productivity and give yourself permission: have a lie-in, play games, lie down and do nothing at all. All of this can help!
Of course, every case is different, and the best course is to seek professional support to understand your own. In general, however, it is caused by feelings and situations that lead to emotional overstimulation, such as the loss of a family member, a separation, deep disappointments, redundancy, bullying or harassment, and so on.
If you are going through a situation like this, we strongly recommend having a professional team by your side. In that case, don't hesitate to count on NEUROON: we help you identify the ties that are causing this strain, and support you in putting into practice the attitudes that can counter it.
