On the International Day of Happiness, an invitation to reflect: are you happy?

Being happy is such a short, simple phrase, yet it carries so much meaning. After all, these are 10 letters that can truly represent the world.

Today, 20 March, is the International Day of Happiness – a date that, on its own, can bring a little smile to most of our faces. After all, who doesn't feel good just hearing this almost magical word and imagining a happy, positive world for everyone? We understand that completely.

At the same time, the date can also prompt a moment of reflection – a reflection capable of filling many long chapters, going far beyond anything those 10 letters put together could ever imagine.

Shall we explore some of them together throughout this blog post?

The first question to reflect on is: what makes you happy?

For some, answering this may be simple; for others, extremely complex or even difficult. That is because we are not always clear about what truly makes us happy. Society has conditioned us so strongly to cling to the not-so-good things that happen that we often live a beautiful moment during the day and fail even to recognise it. Take, for example, parents who see their child walk for the first time after an exhausting day at work. They are so attached to their tiredness that only later will they remember how happy they were in that moment – without having enjoyed the present.

The same happens on a trip that has been planned for months. It may be wonderful, but sometimes its true value only appears further down the line, when you think back and realise you were happy that day.

Returning now to the original question, truly answering what makes us happy is far from simple.

For some, it is a child's gap-toothed smile. For others, a successful career and money to spare in the bank. Some find happiness in collecting experiences and travel rather than things. There are those who are happy on their own, as a couple, in a large family or surrounded by friends.

And you – do you consider yourself a happy person?

If you thought the reflections were over, think again. After this first intense round, the next question that may come up is: so, am I actually a happy person?

There is no getting around it: the answer is the most personal thing there is. But we do have a path to suggest.

The first step is to think about which things make you happy, whether or not they are among those we mentioned above: your family, your friends, your partner, your individuality, your profession or job, your bank balance, your experiences.

Then reflect on how much of this you actually have, and on how you are striving to have ever greater doses of whatever makes you happy.

In doing so, you will probably also find yourself thinking about what is missing to make you happy. If you have this question but find it hard to answer on your own, do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We offer life and business accompaniment programmes that can bring you ever closer to your purpose and to the person you have been destined to be since birth.

Thank you for reading all the way to the end.
